Jack Vettriano’s
Dr Connolly, I presume?
The Jack Vettriano Billy Connolly mural, proudly located on the side of Glasgow Hootenanny’s pub, is a large-scale artwork created by the Scottish artist Jack Vettriano. This vibrant mural, unveiled in 2017, celebrates the 75th birthday of the iconic Scottish comedian and actor, Billy Connolly.
Depicting Connolly against a backdrop of scenes from his illustrious career, the mural captures his larger-than-life personality. It is a reproduction of the Jack Vettriano painting from the comedian’s World Tour of Scotland series in 1994 titled “Dr Connolly I Presume”, featuring a windblown Billy on a storm-lashed coast near John O’Groats. The mural was installed by the famous graffiti artist Rogue One, adding another layer of artistic significance to the tribute.
Jack Vettriano, known for his nostalgic and romantic style, was commissioned to create this mural as a tribute to Connolly’s significant contribution to Scottish culture and entertainment.
Situated in Glasgow, Scotland, the mural has become a beloved landmark, attracting locals and visitors who wish to pay homage to Connolly and admire the stunning artwork that adorns the side of the pub.
